Cut Loose
Cut Loose is an exhibition of screenprinted fabrics from the 1980s by Jill Yates. Authentically handmade, what we see is the output of a member of a generation of young, sign of the times’ artists and designers. In Cut Loose we see ‘Merd International’ fabrics produced 1983-1986 with Hugh Ramage who was Jill’s partner at the time, in art & life in Sydney. After Merd International Jill continued in fabric print production branching out into furnishing widths and commissioning fabric printer Lani Durland of Ersatz Sydney. Everything in Cut Loose has a story. You can wear your art on your sleeve! Some print names include Fur & Jewels, Scratch, Work & Play, Woodgrain and The Dressing Table. Jills work is currently featured in the NGA, Sydney’s Powerhouse and the Art Gallery of WA. Guests are invited to ‘cut loose” and touch and respectfully handle these fabrics
